Clonard Ladies struck it lucky this week when they were announced winners of the Sona Irish Health Foods competition. Three clubs were declared winners of €5,000 each in a competition which was launched in early summer this year. Portumna Camogie Club from Galway and Ahane GAA Club from Limerick made up the lucky trio of winners.
The competition required club members and supporters to purchase a Sona product in their local pharmacy where they then received a unique code to nominate their club online. Clubs with the most nominations were announced winners which says so much for a small club like Clonard as their support and participation outweighed larger clubs with so many more members.
The club extends a huge thank you to Sona Healthfoods, to Gildea’s Pharmacy Kinnegad for organising the presentation, and to Margaret Burke who as usual rallied all the troops to participate in the competition. It once again demonstrated the great support and organisation among the ladies teams.
The funds will be used to purchase club hats for all the lady members which will display the Sona company name as a thank you. The balance of funds will go towards the installation cost of much needed floodlighting on our training pitch in St. Finian’s Park. It comes as a very welcome and timely boost to the floodlight installation along with the much-publicised generous donation of €1,700 from Limerick man JP McManus, which was made to every GAA club in Ireland via their respective county boards. As the old saying goes, it’s better to be born lucky than rich!
